![]() That's just not practical when I am standing at LGS, and going home, doing research and going back only means I miss out on what *was* for sale and is now sold. If the supply catches up, then I will resume being pickey.įor the TL:DR crowd, I know it's good to test different powders, and I know a reloading manual is a good idea, but reloading manuals are not organized by powder, they are organized by Cartridge, which means when I see 5 cans of RL15 on the shelf and NOTHING else, I have to look up a dozen individual cartridges in a half dozen books just to see if I can use it. I am not talking about perfect loads or favorite powders, I am talking about getting by in a pinch if, say only Allant powder is available at the LGS or I hit a GS and Vitiwhatyerver is the only brand available. I already know that my all of my rifle rounds take roughly the same type and grade of powder, so it stands to reason that if I find a powder that is compatible with one, I ought to be able to come up with loads for the others. So, what I need is a shopping list of choices, so when I see random powder for sale, I at least know if I can use it, and that it's not. What is worse is I normally have little or no access to load data when I am standing in the store. Not that I didn't like anything else, just that when I started loading, my LGS carried alot of Hogdon, so that is what I bought. So, I am forced to buy and try whatever I can get my grubbly little hands on, but therein lies the problem, since I never used a variety of powders, and worse, I mostly stick to Hogdon's offerings, I know bupkis about most of the powder out there. Then the panic hits and instead of buying 8 pounders whenever I get low, I haven't seen a can of BL-C(2) in months. I have since added 2400 for my 458 Socom, and regular Clays for my shotshell loads, but otherwise I have stayed true to simplicity. Granted, it took some effort to find loads that each gun liked, or worse, acceptable compromises when I had multiple guns in the same caliber. At one point, I had gotten myself down to just 2 standard powders, Universal Clays and BL-C(2) and every single round I loaded was one of those two.
